About Carina
Carina
Carina is a Valiant Esprit 37 sloop. She was designed by Bob Perry and built for us by Nordic Yachts in Bellingham. She was our third sailboat. We commissioned Carina in the summer of 1979 and enjoyed 23 years of sailing adventures before we sold her in 2001.

We sailed over 15,000 nautical miles in Carina, and lived aboard her when we were between houses. Carina's home port was Bainbridge Island, Washington.

Most of our sailing was in the Pacific Northwest -- in Puget Sound, the San Juan Islands, Canadian Gulf Islands, Desolation Sound, the Inside Passage between Vancouver Island and mainland B. C., and up the west coast of Vancouver Island to Barkley Sound, Uclulet, and Tofino.

In 1983, we took leaves of absence from our jobs to do some blue water sailing. We departed from Neah Bay and sailed down the West Coast, with stops in Oregon and California. From San Diego, we sailed south to Mexico’s Sea of Cortez for the winter, then across the Pacific to Hawaii before returning to Western Washington in August,1984.
